Hither Lane + Therapy Life & Style
The resurgence of small business in the Town of Southampton Town takes a refreshing step forward with the recent opening of Hither Lane, a kitchen, barware and home decor shop priced to cater to locals and tourists alike. Having grown up in East Hampton, founder Jaclyn Ryan has returned to bring a much-needed perspective to Main Street retail after working in New York and Europe for 20 years.
“The Hamptons of my childhood was centered around the charm and personal touch of small business, and too many places have since been pushed out by luxury chains whose doors are only open two months a year. We need more year-round places where locals can shop too.”
Homeowners and gift-givers will relish the chance to browse Hither Lane’s curated collection of pieces to elevate one’s space in styles ranging from retro-modern to rustic. Categories include cocktail glassware, table linens and natural wood cutting/serving boards. Each item is chosen to reflect the Hither Lane philosophy that every detail in the home, no matter how small, deserves to be pleasing and intentional.
As seasonal pop ups have made it difficult for small businesses to afford their own storefronts, Ryan partnered with Therapy Life & Style brand owner Kelly Kirkpatrick who has operated a clothing, jewelry and accessories store in Southampton since 2006.
“I was introduced to Kelly in the midst of my frustration with finding a retail space that had anything close to a realistic lease agreement for a small business. It seemed like it was impossible for someone like me to get an affordable rent out here—until I met her.”
After chatting about their shared passion for approachable retail in the Hamptons, with an added interest of supporting a fellow female business owner, Kirkpatrick invited Hither Lane to share the space at 38 Main Street.
“Now what we’re able to offer is even more exciting than our individual brands. Working together, we have a shop that offers an ideal destination for gifts, clothing and accessories, plus items for the kitchen, home and more. Pretty much if you wear clothes, eat, drink or entertain, we’ve got something unique for you!”
