Since people are always asking me about real estate and lifestyle matters, we introduced a light and fun monthly Q&A about all sorts of topics.
September is…
“A time for being outdoors and enjoying warm pre-fall days and cool evenings under the stars. Beach bonfires, long rounds of golf, and later in the day, boat rides.”
Is it a good time to list or buy a home in the Hamptons, or should I wait?
“I can’t say that it is ever a time to wait, particularly if a house or property checks most of your boxes. New inventory comes to market throughout the year for various personal reasons. End of season this year certainly feels a bit heavier than usual, though it is time for new inventory that the sidelined buyer pool is waiting for.”
My perfect itinerary for a September day.
“Rising early to play frisbee with my Australian Shepherd Scout (who’s a great catch) or to walk over the bridge to the private bay beach. Then I work out, make some phone calls and have a late lunch while solving life’s problems and people watching with my wife on the porch at the American Hotel—simply perfect. We sit around the fire pit to watch the sunset over Davis Creek and Peconic Bay before catching the latest flick or show on Netflix or Amazon Prime. It all makes for a good night’s sleep.”
Now that we’re four years into COVID-19, how are post-Labor Day crowds in the Hamptons? Has the area returned to its pre-pandemic cycle, or are residents continuing to stay longer or year-round?
“The expression ‘Tumbleweed Tuesday’ has certainly been felt this year and last. The pace is slower and less traffic makes driving between villages more efficient. The ‘edge’ is gone, and there is a feeling of ‘We’ve made it through another busy season.’ I’m always grateful for the crowds, the rush, the energy and the mania. However, this is a time when locals take in all of the well-earned harvest of a season.”
