Since people are always asking me about real estate and lifestyle matters, we introduced a light and fun monthly Q&A about all sorts of topics.
From farm stands to plant nurseries, where to find pumpkins, apple cider and other fall décor and treats.
“In addition to the farms mentioned in my note and guide, Amber Waves in Amagansett is another great spot on a crisp fall day early in the season. As for garden items and plant materials, Fowler’s Garden Center, Marders and Whitmores are all good choices.”
Transitioning between seasons: People are staying longer out East, so it’s important to position your home with amenities to make the most of fall. Here are some ideas.
“Any way one can connect indoor spaces to the outdoors is a winner. I am seeing ceiling heaters on covered porches and four-season rooms used more often. I also suggest heating stone terraces, plumbing and the spa pool separately from the swimming pool to offer longer use and enjoyment.”
Halloween with Kids: My picks for how to celebrate with little ones around the East End.
“Hank’s PumpkinTown and the Ludlow family’s corn maze are two of the best pre-Halloween experiences. Elm Street in Southampton continues to be a favorite destination for trick-or-treating given its connection to the ‘Nightmare on Elm Street’ movies.”
My favorite place to see fall colors on foot, boat and bike.
“Scotts Landing Road for bike rides or long walks. The fall foliage views to Cow Neck and the hundreds of acres of preserved land around Scallop Pond and Sebonac Creek are also spectacular. The many golf courses are another beautiful option to enjoy the outdoors, whether walking or riding in a golf cart. From the boat, I like views of Mashomack Preserve, Clam Island, Three Mile Harbor and Nostrand Parkway along Shelter Island. The treelined Moraine and Dering Harbor clearing out as boats depart for winter are all part of the beauty of the four seasons on the East End.”
