The pandemic changed a lot. What is considered “off-season” in the Hamptons today, and how does it affect the real estate market? Is October still busy?
“We are back to a normal sense of what the Fall and Winter seasons feel like here. For the past two years we have experienced the historic “tumbleweed Tuesday,” the day after Labor Day. That being said, homeowners and weekend visitors are here enjoying all that the region has to offer during these beautiful last few months of the year.”
What should East End homeowners and buyers be focusing on in Fall, such as timing to buy or sell, home maintenance, new construction and establishing a strategy to be prepared for next summer?
“Fall is a time for checking on what deferred maintenance items need to be addressed for every homeowner. Lining up the execution of these items to be dealt with for the balance of the year and into next year is important. It is also a time for tending to garden and landscape items like planting perennial bulbs, trimming dead tree limbs and fertilizing.”
Why should someone consider renting in the East End during October?
“October or any Fall month is a good time to consider renting here, particularly if you are considering a purchase and want to move around the town and villages. It’s a time to discover the heart and soul of the communities and where one may feel comfortable making an investment. Enjoying the tasty menus of the local restaurants, visiting galleries and museums, and taking longs walks on the Main Streets.”
What are your favorite Fall traditions?
“I love apple picking season in particular, and the abundance of organic choices being grown here in our backyard. The Milk Pail Fresh Market and its nearby U-pick farm in Water Mill are the best sources. Owner Amy Halsey runs an amazing operation.”
Do you have any fun trips planned for Fall?
“I’m going to a friend’s 80th birthday celebration in Dallas. I’ve never been there and am looking forward to enjoying some big Texas hospitality and checking out the Mansion on Turtle Creek.”
From a dish to a golf game, what’s the best thing you’ve experienced lately in Hamptons?
“A group of great guys and I enjoyed a round at the Maidstone last week. The weather was ideal, and the terrain and setting on the ocean and interior ponds are spectacular. Plus, I played pretty well. It is my favorite course in the East End.”
