Since people are always asking me about real estate and lifestyle matters, we introduced a light and fun monthly Q&A about all sorts of topics.
In the spirit of the U.S. Open, my favorite East End golf moments.
“I have been fortunate enough to have played all of the private courses in the East End at least once. Some of my favorite settings and moments are the Maidstone’s ocean views, the 18th hole at Sebonack, the rolling hills of Atlantic and the Bridge, and the memories of lost friends at my home course, Southampton Golf Club. I don’t play much, but when I take the occasional half day to enjoy a round in the most ideal weather conditions, it is priceless.”
Tips on hiring an architect/designer/general contractor.
“The best advice is to check references even on some of the smaller jobs. Knowing who is on your property and has access to your intimate spaces is extremely important. Check on whether someone is licensed and insured, and if not, confirm with your homeowner policy that you are covered if an accident happens.”
Davis family Father’s Day plans.
“With the U.S. Open’s final round on Father’s Day, we will undoubtedly be gathered in front of a large-screen television either at home in Southampton or Newport. My son Christopher and I plan to attend the tournament on June 18, and I’m looking forward to making some memories together.”
Hot topics around town.
“For those arriving back for season, there’s an awful lot of driving around to see what new homes have sprung up as well as new shops and restaurants bursting with people looking for a first taste of the action. Recent real estate transactions are always a hot topic of conversation throughout the market.”
Top real estate questions and requests that people are asking as we head into season.
“Many people ask about inventory (which I addressed in my introduction). Our market remains strong with a buyer pool waiting for new inventory and plentiful supply that improves around this time of year when we brokers suggest listing properties.”
In response to a recent story in The New York Times about the fierce competition for personal chefs in the Hamptons, my tips for whom to call when everyone’s booked.
“Not everyone is booked, and there are several individuals who source private chefs who are part of my network. DM me.”
The coolest home amenity I’ve seen recently.
“I am impressed with the underground caves that can be delivered in a prefabricated form and dropped into a hole in the ground to be customized by the individual homeowner.”
