Since people are always asking me about real estate and lifestyle matters, we introduced a light and fun monthly Q&A about all sorts of topics.
Favorite ice cream shops in the East End.
“My grandchildren have been visiting, so I asked them for their input about this topic and they responded, ‘Poppy, we love when you have the ice cream truck come to your house.’ We also frequent the Fudge Company in Southampton, BuddhaBerry in Sag Harbor, Carvel in Bridgehampton, and Sant Ambroeus for gelato.”
The truth about inventory in the Hamptons for those who don’t know what to believe from word of mouth to local news outlets and real estate reports.
“The region remains at an all-time low as far as inventory is concerned. That being said, taking a second or third look at the existing inventory is always a good idea since pricing can often adjust and sellers become more motivated, creating opportunities.”
In celebration of this month’s Hampton Classic Horse Show, I share my insight regarding buyers with equestrian needs.
“The notion of having a ‘Gentleman’s Farm’ with equestrian facilities, barns and staff housing as a living experience has waned over time. There are quite a few excellent barns with boarding options at a very high level on the East End, and it is how most have opted to be able to enjoy that passion here.”
Where I’d stay if my wife and I took a staycation in the East End.
“We have a fondness for Montauk, and in particular, Gurney’s. I grew up spending many days camping at Hither Hills State Park sleeping under the stars with my siblings and watching my father reel in striped bass from the surf. My wife and I had our wedding reception at Gurney’s 43 years ago, and we often stop in on our way out to or returning from Montauk. In my career I have handled the sale of some of the hamlet’s extraordinary oceanfront homes, starting with the Stone House on the cliffs over 40 years ago.”
